The Latest School Air Conditioning Proposal

The learning environment is essential to the success of students. Many schools are in discussions to improve their air conditioning because of this very reason. Consider a recent article for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette titled “Mt. Lebanon school board tables air conditioning proposal.”

Janice Crompton of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes, “Air conditioning for Mt. Lebanon's elementary and middle schools will have to wait a little longer, after school directors Monday night decided to table the issue. ‘We're going to take more time to think about this, and we'll strike when the time is right,’ said Lawrence Lebowitz, school board president. Although a majority of school board members said they would support air conditioning, estimated to cost about $4.1 million for the district's seven elementary schools and another $1.3 million for its two middle schools, they wanted to wait for state and district budgets to be finalized first. ‘I think it's insane what's going on in Harrisburg right now,’ said board member Michael Riemer about the state budget impasse, now in its ninth month. ‘I'm very concerned about it.’ The district has $7 million in unallocated capital project funds and will likely save millions more by refinancing construction bonds in the next several years, said superintendent Timothy Steinhauer. ‘We know it isn't going to get any cheaper,’ he said of the cost. ‘We'd like to get started as soon as possible.’ Mr. Steinhauer said the district has been spending money in recent years buying window air conditioning units for staff and students with health issues. At times, classrooms on upper floors can reach 87 degrees or more. Board member William Cooper said he met a young boy who needed a window unit because of a medical condition. ‘He could not function without that air conditioner,’ Mr. Cooper said. ‘We're going to have more and more demand for this. It's just the right thing to do.’ Estimates have placed the cost to maintain new air conditioning systems at about $130,000 per year. That was too much for some members.”

When it comes to portable air conditioners, we’ve got you covered at AC World. Our ductless mini split air conditioner is a cost effective alternative to central air conditioning. Yes, it is slightly more than the typically wall or window air conditioner, but the minor additional cost is easily and quickly recouped in energy savings and home security. For example, since the compressor sits on the outside, the ductless mini split air conditioner is very quiet and efficient. Furthermore, they avoid the energy losses associated with the ductwork of central forced air systems.

Whatever portable air conditioner needs you might have, look no further than our team at AC World!
