no air conditioning walk out at california high school

As was reported in an earlier story, Lindhurst High School in Olivehurst, CA has been forced to suffer the summer heat without air conditioning this year. On Tuesday, August 25, 2015, more than 100 students staged a walk out to protest the lack of air conditioning in the building while summer school was in session. Teachers and students have recorded temperatures eclipsing 90 degrees in a number of classrooms and the complaints have started to mount. In addition to making it nearly impossible to focus or stay awake in class, students and teachers have both started to feel health effects of the stifling temperatures. Several students have passed out from the heat, and one teacher was forced to go to the hospital due to heat exhaustion. One student who was interviewed stated that it was 95 degrees in the classroom, and that after running out of water, it became difficult to breathe. The students walked out to protest a campus which they stated was unsafe and unhealthy environment, having felt abandoned after being forced to return to the sweltering school day after day.

The school says that it will cost more than $5 million to repair the broken air conditioning system. In the meantime, they have started to move classrooms to those that still have air conditioning. In addition the school has brought in fans and portable air conditioning units to those rooms that cannot move, and bottled water is being provided to the students. However, the students say that these efforts are not effective or good enough. Fans are too loud, and neither they nor the portable air conditioners seem to be working very well. School administrators are trying to alleviate the situation as quickly as they can, but they are dragged down with red tape regarding plans and drawings for the renovation of the current HVAC system. AC-World can be a great resource for a company or institution looking to obtain cooling without the red tape that accompanies a ducted central HVAC system. Their localized units are cost effective and easy to install, making them a great choice for more efficient heating and cooling.
