Heatwave Strikes Oregon

In places like Oregon, the summer is looking to be hotter than it has been in many years. As a result, air conditioners are in increasing demand. KATU News explores this in a recent article titled “First hot weekend means a rush on air conditioning units.”

Stephen Mayer of KATU News writes, “When the temperatures hover near the 90's you don't normally want to do any heavy lifting. But Erin Karoll doesn't mind. She knows breaking a sweat now will help her avoid the sweat later. ‘It's the first weekend of 90 degrees and I'm dying here. I don't have a pool or anything,’ Karoll said. Like many others, Karoll was out shopping for a new air conditioner, hoping it will help her sleep a lot better than she did last night. Staff at the Home Depot near I-205 had a feeling she was coming. Jim Coan has worked at the Home Depot for 12 years and says the same thing happens every first hot weekend, they sell out of air conditioners leaving lots of disappointed customers. ‘It's very difficult. We got a lot of phone calls, a lot of people coming in here,’ Coan said.”

Oregon Coast Beach Connection also takes a look at the hot summer in a recent article titled “Hideous Heatwave Coming for Oregon; Coast in 70's Midweek.” The author of the article writes, “‘Overall, confidence remains rather high that it will be very hot by the end of the week,’ the NWS said. ‘Overnight low temperatures will also remain quite warm, which will limit overnight recovery. This pattern has the potential to bring several days of very hot weather, perhaps the hottest stretch of days seen in the last several years, with a few temperatures around 20 degrees above seasonal normals.’ NWS forecast listings don't go beyond next weekend, but they show Portland and western Oregon hitting about 100 on Sunday. Weather.com is predicting sizzling heat all the way through Monday, July 6. About Tuesday, June 30 the site is saying upper 90's through to the following Sunday – July 5. Monday, they are predicting a slight drop to 93.”

With this unusual heat, people, more than ever, will need quality air conditioners. At AC World, we’ve got you covered with our ductless mini split air conditioners. This is a cost effective alternative to Central Air conditioning. Because the compressor sits on the outside, the Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioner is very quiet and efficient. In addition, since Ductless Mini Split Air Conditioners have no ducts, they avoid the energy losses associated with the ductwork of central forced Air systems. For your information, duct losses can account for more than 30 percent of energy consumption for space conditioning, especially if the ducts are in unconditioned spaces such as an attic.

Whatever air conditioning needs you might have, your best bet is AC World!
