Children Deserve Air Conditioning in Their Schools

Children deserve every opportunity to succeed in school. Much of that success comes down to the environment they are trying to learn in. For example, if it’s uncomfortably warm at all times, you can’t expect students to perform at their highest level. Consider a recent article for the Chicago Tribune titled “Paul Sassone: River Forest air conditioning plan another state budget crisis casualty.”

Paul Sassone of the Chicago Tribune writes, “In 1902, Willis Carrier created a large-scale air conditioner to cool the offices of a lithographing and publishing company in New York. And it is commonly understood that higher temperatures, say in the upper 70s and above, cause a decline in concentration and cognitive abilities. So, it has always amazed – and angered – me that so many classrooms still are not air conditioned. Even when I was in school, you could always pinpoint where the principal's office was. It was the room that had a window air conditioner. He or she was comfortable during hot weather. But the kids, for whom the school existed, sweltered. Their work suffered and sometimes they became ill from the heat and humidity. In recent years, school officials have belatedly come to the realization that if learning is to take place in hot weather, kids should learn in an air conditioned classroom. Officials at River Forest's elementary school District 90 were going to finally air condition all three district buildings. School officials said the estimate to provide air conditioning for all of Roosevelt Middle School, Willard and Lincoln elementary schools was approximately $3.9 million. But, at a recent meeting the school board scaled back those plans. With the future of state funding unknown and precarious administrators now propose to air condition only the Roosevelt Middle School auditorium. The estimate for this project is about $307,000.”

If you’re looking for portable air conditioners, we’ve got you covered at AC World. Our ductless mini split air conditioner is a cost effective alternative to central air conditioning. Yes, it is slightly more than the typically wall or window air conditioner, but the minor additional cost is easily and quickly recouped in energy savings and home security. For example, since the compressor sits on the outside, the ductless mini split air conditioner is very quiet and efficient. Furthermore, they avoid the energy losses associated with the ductwork of central forced air systems.

Whatever portable air conditioner needs you might have, look no further than our team at AC World!
