Avoiding Air Conditioner Repair Scams

Avoiding Air Conditioner Repair ScamsWith the high temperatures of this summer, there will be an increasing need for air conditioners. Unfortunately, with that, there will also be an increasing number of people trying to scam you on air conditioner repairs. Star News Online addresses this in a recent article titled “Avoid air conditioner repair scams.”

According to the author of the article, “Each year, dozens of consumers contact the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division to complain about problems with air conditioning and heating repairs. To avoid problems with HVAC repairs: Get recommendations. Ask friends, neighbors and co-workers who they use for repairs. Check credentials. Contact the Consumer Protection Division at 1-877-5-NO-SCAM and your local Better Business Bureau to learn about the company’s complaint history. To see if the repair person is properly licensed, contact the State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors at 919-875-3612. Get a written contract. Read it carefully before you sign it and make sure it includes all promises made orally. Remember that state law gives you three business days to cancel if you sign a home repair contract at your home rather than at the company’s place of business.”

The Winston-Salem Journal also offers some advice for people looking to avoid air conditioner repair scams in a recent article titled “Ask SAM: How to avoid air-conditioner repair scams.” According to the author of the article, “The state Attorney General’s office is offering some suggestions to avoid scams when dealing with your air-conditioning systems, which are being taxed by this week’s high temperatures. ‘Keep your cool if you need your air-conditioner repaired in the middle of a heat wave,’ Roy Cooper, the Attorney General, said in a press release. ‘You want your AC fixed fast, but you also want it done right and at a fair price.’... Consumers can also file complaints online at www.ncdoj.gov and get additional tips on common home repair scams on that site. We have created a direct link to that page at tinyurl.com/homerepairscams.”

If you’re looking for a quality air conditioner to get you through this hot summer, you can’t go wrong with AC World. Our ductless mini split air conditioners are a cost effective alternative to central Air conditioning. They are very quiet and efficient, with the compressor sitting on the outside. Not to mention, since they have no ducts, they avoid the energy losses associated with the ductwork of central forced Air systems. It’s important to know that duct losses can account for more than 30 percent of energy consumption for space conditioning, especially if the ducts are in unconditioned spaces such as an attic.

When it comes to quality air conditioners, look no further than AC World!
