A Search for Solar Powered Air Conditioners

Posted by

With temperatures rising across the world, people are plugging in and cooling off more and more frequently – and for more days throughout the year. While innovations are likely decades away from being available to consumers, at AC World we’re always interested in the best, newest ways to keep cool. An article in TrendinTech titled New,Innovative Eco-Friendly Air Conditioning Systems Coming Our Way, sums up the situation nicely.

A. Thomas writes, “The use of air conditioning is on a steady incline all over the globe, and that is largely due to the increase in the warmer weather we are seeing. However, it is a bit of a double edged sword as we need air conditioning to keep ourselves cool in various places including home, work, and in our cars. But these units are playing a huge part in the contribution of the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which is not okay for anyone. So, how do we combat this issue?”

A team of four space engineers based at the Thales Alenia Space in Cannes, France have collaborated their knowledge and expertise to come up with a revolutionary air conditioning system that will use solar power rather than electricity to operate making it much more eco-friendly than traditional units. Welcome – the Helioclim air conditioning system.

Using their skills in space and thermal engineering, the team have designed a system that releases no greenhouse gas emissions and uses the power of the sun to heat water up to 200 degrees Celsius. The pressurized water is then transferred to another unit, where it can supply both hot and cold water. For temperatures below zero, a water-ammonia mixture is used as the cooler.

The range of temperatures the Helioclim can achieve is its unique selling point within the market. Add this to the flexibility of being able to tailor the system to meet your requirements, and the zero carbon dioxide emissions, then you have really good, eco-friendly air conditioning unit. With installations for the thermal units due to take place in Africa and France, it may not be long before we can benefit from these systems and help the environment at the same time.”

There are a lot of questions that still need to be answered about this new air conditioning option but at AC World we’re certainly keeping our eye on this and other new innovations. While you’re waiting for the AC units of the future to be available, visit us to buy some of the most efficient air conditioning systems currently on the market.
